2009 Danish Correspondence Chess Championships

This event started november 2009 and I have now finished all my games.
My final result was excellent: 10.5 of 14 (+6 =7 -0) - crosstable

As one can read from the crosstable, I am currently leading but not yet sure of winning the event…

While the tournament is still in progress and important games will decide whether I will be champion or not I think it’s time to do a status on my games in the event.

I had a fairly good draw because I was given the white pieces against the 2 players I feared the most; Champion from the last 3 years, Søren Rud Ottesen (2360), and a player I lost to in another event, Lars-Henrik Bech Hansen (2039).
I decided to play for quick draws in those two games. This tactic was successfully executed.
6.h3 against the Najdorf did the trick for me against Ottesen and against Hansen I played 3.Bb5 against a classical Sicilian and then exchanged on c6 and we agreed on a draw in only 21 moves.

In my other games I tried to play the Modern Defence as black and opened all white games 1.e4.
My main rival contender for the title now is the head of the danish CC organization, Søren Peschardt.
He played 1.d4 against me and in a Veresov Opening I had to defend accurately and exchange as many pieces as possible to get the draw.

Marshall Attack e-book

I have been working on an e-book on the Marshall Attack for almost a year now.
It’s really beginning to look very good!
Currently I am adding video highlights to the book and also updating with the newest games played by the top GM’s.

I enjoy it very much and I do believe that the book will be very useful for black players up to around 2200 ELO level who want to play and understand(!) the Marshall Attack against the Ruy Lopez.

Still offline!

I have now been without internet connection for almost a month now and still is (this is written from another computer); What seemed to be a simple transfer from one ISP to another has turned into a nightmare for me and my two daughters aged 18 and 16. They don’t have access to their facebook and their MSN. But their problems are of course not to be compared to mine: I can’t move in my games and I can’t publish any chess videos!

I really hope my problems with my ISP are solved very soon!

Capablanca Video #4: Beating the Marshall

This is the famous game where Marshall played his Marshall Attack for the first time in serious competition.
Capablanca took the challenge over the board by accepting the pawn.
Marshall played very agressively, but Capablanca was able to find all the right answers to Marshall’s threats.

Marshall may have been frustrated that Capa did so well, but the chess world noticed the ideas behind the Marshall Attack and this opening is still played by a lot of top players today!

So although losing this game, Marshall had invented something still of value almost 100 years later!

Capablanca Video #3: Was it a sound sac?

In this game from an exhibition match against an amateur player Capablanca plays a very questionnable bishop sacrifice. This happens every day all over the world whe a strong player meets a weaker one, you might argue. And true that is.
But this game has been regarded one of the Capablanca classics - is that fair, considering the quality?

The young Capablanca was playing a match against the cuban champion of that time, Juan Corzo, and Capa won the match!!
